The Poi tricks page on my website (www.thespinsterz.com/knowled...cks.htm) gets a lot of views, but a lot of people also "leave" or "exit" my website from that page. So I am wondering two things, did they get what they came for or were they disappointed?
So what I want help with is this; If you were searching for "POI TRICKS" , what exactly are you hoping to find? Thanks so much for any advise.

So your written descriptions are a bit lacking, and they lack a systematic approach to poi spinning. It doesnt have a breakdown of timing and directions of poi, or an explanation of planes.

In my opinion timing and direction of the poi, timing and direction of hands (flower theory and hybrid theory), crossing theory (weaves, threads, inversions and insides), unit circle theory (isolation, extension, cateye) and stalls are the most important things you could have on your website. That covers the majority of single plane spinning, you could also include plane breaking (changing planes at stall points) and plane bending (conical spinning), but that is a lot of pages of writing already.

all of the videos down the side of the page are drex's tech blogs, not exactly instructional tutorials, good stuff, and i dont think he would mind, but does drex know that you are posting his videos like that?

Yeah, Brandon cleared this with me a while ago, though I'll echo Tank's sentiments that my vids aren't really intended to be tutorials. I've made a few tutorials, but my blog is usually used for exploring concepts.

I think you have good descriptions of some of the rote basics, but I also think Tank is on the right track with some of his critiques. In particular, a note of all the different timing and direction combinations for poi is something that I would consider a very basic element of poi knowledge that anybody picking up the art should have. The point about planes is also a good one--so frequently beginners plane shift rather than shift the direction of their poi to get between tricks that the sooner they're acquainted with these concepts the better.

If you're looking for good descriptions of some of the basic elements of poi, I'd really recommend checking out Dyami's poi wiki on Home of Poi: www.homeofpoi.com/ubbthread...Post886966

What are you using to monitor your analytics? If you're using something robust like omniture (yes, I was too lazy to check your source code myself!) then you can use that to see where they're exiting to.

I'd bet money that 90% of exit traffic is going to other youtube videos based on the recommendations that pop up when the video finishes playing. "Oh, that was cool, but what's this one?"... Recommendation for that would be to use script/settings that disables the recommendations that pop up within the embed at all. I'm not sure the specifics, but that it is 100% possible.

Also, in your analytics check out your previous page results for the video page. There's a chance that people return and continue to browse your site. When analyzing site traffic, you can use that to retie your numbers together, although it won't be perfect.

But generally speaking, I'd need to know a few things to break down why the traffic is behaving the way it is: Do they enter this page "cold" off of a search engine/outside link, or do they come from within the site. If from within the site, is the exit traffic from this page significantly higher than the others (30% or higher from similarly leveled pages). How does the page view of this page compare to others. A very important technical issue is how long do they stay on the page. If it is < 5 seconds, then you have an error between your source code and your embeds.

If you answer those questions (or send me a sample page of the analytics), I can recommend pure structure changes that can help fix all of those, content aside!

And sorry for the "stick up the ass" feel to the post... I have to do this for a fortune 100 company, so it's hard-wired!

Teaching and learning are full body experiences. We all learn things with different methods and processes. The more ways of explaining a lesson and the more senses a teacher can reach, the more likely their students will be able to pick up on some thread they can expand to develop their understanding of the concept.
If I were searching for poi tricks I would want to find direction to teachers, communities, full media tutorials, and most of all guidelines on how to explore the art form in my own unique way.
