I started learning poi with glowsticks on thin rope. It does work but the rope has to thin so the glowsticks are heavier than the rope or it will mess you up. I don't suggest doing this because it creates bad habits and hurts more when you hit yourself because all the force is hitting you in a smaller area. The bad habit I had from these was with the butterfly. You have one hand slightly in front of the other for glowsticks and need to have your hands slightly farther apart for poi. I recommend og poi or glow poi.

Og poi http://www.firemecca.com/p-930-ogg-led-glow-poi.aspx
These are kind of expensive but more durable than glow poi. You can't get them wet at all even to clean them and do not store them in a humid area. These are worth the money but a beginner may damage them.

glow poi http://www.firemecca.com/p-901-led-glow-poi.aspx
These are cheaper and less durable but if you break them they are cheaper to replace.

I used to have the glow poi but broke a few sets so I bought the og poi. I like the og poi better because they are rechargeable.

Also for learning you can use sock poi with long socks and tennis balls. It you want them heavier cut a hole in the tennis balls and add pennies.

If you really want glowsticks instead of glow poi. Get flow lights. I have a set of these because they are easier to carry around then big glow poi.

If you do want glowsticks instead of bulky poi get flow lights
flow light poi with leash and case http://www.firemecca.com/p-956-flowlight-crystal-led-glow-poi.aspx
make sure you use the case. They hurt without the case and people walk into them a lot if they aren't paying attention.

You'll get a lot of people who are of differing views in this;

When you talk about the poi performed by ravers or anyone with light objects like glowsticks, it's often called "glow-stringing" and take advantage of using light-weight, non-burning objects. Hyper-loops, body wraps, tracing, and other moves really blew up here, first.

Tricks such as isolations and certain stalls (and techier people correct me) get harder with lighter objects, so are more commonly seen in fire poi.

www.Flowtoys.com (my perferred glow-toy company) has made some really really good non-fire, non-disposable glowstick options for both.

If you want it to be as close to traditional weighted poi, I'd go with Oggz poi. They are refitted decoration devices. The new ones (to know fault of flow toys) aren't as durable, but they are still a good option.

If you want it closer to glow sticks, then their flow lights are great. If you want an in-between, you can add cases and flow mass to change up the weight (they make great handles, too, for more glow).

If you want to go pro, then I hightly recommend Super Bright Poi. http://superbrighttoys.com/superbrighttoys/Welcome.html They're much more expensive than anything at flow toys, but they're so much brighter it's ridiculous! You'd have to see them to believe how bright they are!

There's a ton of resource you can find both here and on http://techpoi.tribe.net/

Just search through tribe in general and you'll get tons of reviews for the different glow toys. Good luck!

Hi all,

I've never really been into the scene of clubbing or raving so I don't have that much knowledge of glowsticks but keeping seeing them for sale as poi. What I recollect is that glowsticks are very light...for me the lighter the poi, the harder the spin but I really love playing with lights preferably to fire because with LED I am not in danger of losing my hair and would like to give glow stick poi a try...

Any recommendations?
