I wouldn't recommend going the poi ball route. I have seen some that have the loop embedded, but because they weren't worried about it being "rolled" the center of gravity (battery area) is not in the center of the ball, but off to one end. When I tried to roll them, they were lopsided. This is the same with my LED juggling balls.

When I googled "led contact juggling" I got some hits of equipment that were designed (supposedly) for contact juggling
http://www.lightupandjuggle.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=6
http://www.oddballs.co.uk/juggling-balls-led-lightup-balls-c-1190_1207.html

I'd start by looking around there, and then asking people in a contact juggling tribe (http://tribes.tribe.net/sphereplay) if they've tried any of the equipment or have recommendations for better.

Good luck in your searching!
