Cable?

topic posted Sat, June 14, 2008 - 11:04 AM by  Spike
Hey,
I am about to buy my first set of fire poi (I've done fire poi, but I don't actually have my own set)

I was wondering what experiences you might have of the cable instead of chain? Will it wrap? I haven't seen cable in person. Also same question about the twist oval.

Also any general info about buying my first set of fire poi would be good (I've been practicing poi for a bit more than a year now, if that helps). Thanks!

I remember picking up a pair someone had made out of cable a few years ago. I spun them for a second, smiled, and handed them back. Cable isn't nearly nearly as flaccid as chain and doesn't feel right. Twisted oval link has never done me wrong, personally. Wraps well, tangles well, solid. I have oval chains that have outlasted a few sets of heads.

Two things about cable you need to know...
Will it wrap? yes. However, it's not designed for regular bending and will start taking damage pretty much from the first time. Also, it can 'kink' and form a permanent fold in the cable which can throw things off or get caught.

do not buy the cable poi from home of poi, it sucks and will hold your spinning back. go ahead and spend the extra money on chains and some poi heads with decent weight

I ordered my led poi from hop with the cable and they frayed real fast and cut my hands and arms to shit,
and they definitely did kink alot.
i disliked them so much that i hung them up and put shoelaces on my led poi

i am not really a fan of the cable. my personal favourite is the ballchain. it takes a touch getting used to....but it hyperloops beautifully.

Thanks everyone. That's what I figured about the cable.. and I wasn't talking specifically Home of Poi cable, but I imagine most cable is probably similar.
